Ideas for cities and public agencies

To be successful, a city or public agency website must communicate effectively with area residents and businesses. It needs to provide them with timely news and information about the community, make it easy for them to utilize services, learn about events and classes, locate public documents, download the right forms, and find the right answers to their questions.

It should be intuitive, easy to navigate, and it should anticipate visitors' needs so that they can take full advantage of its resources -- without the assistance of your staff.

A successful website will make it easy for staff members to update the information that people need. It will give them tools for presenting their information so that it looks clean, professional and consistent. And it will provide them with these capabilities without requiring that they acquire new skills or learn to use special software.

We can provide a 100-percent outsourced solution for your city or agency website needs. The result: a uniquely designed website that is people-friendly, cost effective and easy to maintain.

Case Studies

  • Event-based Community Website Stimulates Local Commerce

With 7 local colleges and a unique downtown shopping and entertainment district, the City of Claremont is a regional hub of community events, including films, lectures, live music, dance, theater and art exhibits.

With encouragement from the City and sponsorship of the Chamber of Commerce, we designed and developed The Claremont Calendar, which aggregates events from the colleges, the City, local entertainment venues and community organizations, providing area residents and visitors with compelling reasons to spend more of their time and money in the local community.

  • Online Policing Tool Targets Local Addresses via Email & Text

Responding to a request from our local police department, we designed a system whereby messages could be sent to local residents and businesses via email or text message (SMS), including micro-targeting by address based on customizable reporting districts.

The system, which is currently being used by two southern California cities, includes the ability to receive anonymous tips, to create and send messages  to special business and community groups, and to post videos, images or slideshows.

  • Mapping Economic Development Opportunities

The City of Chino, CA, wanted to make it easier for potential developers to find information about available sites. Working with city personnel, Highpoint designed and developed an attractive printed package of redevelopment site information, along with a website where interested parties could review the same information online.

Using existing city maps and notes from our own site visits, we designed updated maps of each redevelopment site plus a summary of why each site is attractive and how it might be used. Each listing provided a local map, traffic counts, and contact information.
